Chairman Julian Venables has great pleasure in announcing our 2020 Autumn term Astrology programme of evening talks in Brighton.
September 2nd: Beyond the Bounds: Black Moon Lilith
A Talk by Carole Taylor
The Black Moon (also known as Lilith) occupies the empty focal point of the Moon’s elliptical orbit around the Earth. In folklore, Lilith is the first wife of Adam, created not from his rib, as Eve was, but from primal earth like her husband, giving her equal status. Refusing to be betray her own nature, she chose exile rather than submission. Long associated with a negative image of the feminine as demon or sorceress, on a collective level she is the untamed spirit of nature, whilst on a personal level this is a place where we often have to fight to claim our territory or express our potential. Here we may have found ourselves diminished by authority and pushed to the margin or playing the renegade. We will explore this powerful feminine archetype both in natal charts and as an image relevant to current issues of climate change and ecology.
Carole Taylor MA, FFAstrolS is a former Faculty President and currently Director of Studies and Online Classes Manager. She has been a tutor at the Faculty since 2001, contributing extensively to the course material. Carole runs an astrological practice and has co-tutored workshops for Heaven & Earth Workshops in Bali and Goa. She holds the MA in Myth, Cosmology & the Sacred from Canterbury Christ Church University and is a tutor on the Sophia MA in Cultural Astronomy & Astrology at the University of Wales, Trinity Saint David.
September 16th: Journey to the Centre of the Twelfth House
A Talk by Michael Bartlett
We live in an age when the qualities of the 12th house have been all but neglected and/or ridiculed as woo-woo. There is very little information available to give us guidance through these misty-hallowed halls and chthonic watery depths. So, unless we intentionally work with the archetypal themes, most likely because we have natal 12th house planets, we easily become lost when planets transit and progress there. This one-hour talk will cast some light into one of the most shadow-filled and misunderstood houses in astrology. Learning the 12th house lessons gives us amazing strength to not only survive, but thrive in these chaotic times.
Michael Bartlett focuses on traditional and esoteric astrology while utilising the skills he learned from Core Energetics. He employs this body-oriented process in concert with his highly intuitive nature, three decades of business experience and two decades of astrological experience and understanding. Michael is the author of a book about individuals with planets on the chart’s angles entitled: of Astrological Mavericks: Do you have what it takes to change the world? He offers webinars, workshops, intensives and he is also teacher for Kepler College. Visit coremichael.com for his blog, free radio and YouTube talks and for more information. email@example.com

November 4th: How Archetypal Astrology Works: an Experiential Approach to Churchill’s Chart
A Talk by Phoebe Wyss
After introducing the cosmological model on which her top-down method of chart interpretation is based, Phoebe will demonstrate it experientially by exploring the chart of Winston Churchill. When he took control of the country in 1940 it stood alone and unprepared in the face of a Nazi invasion. Against great odds he managed to successfully lead it through the perilous war years, proving the truth of the saying, ‘Cometh the moment, cometh the man’. Today he’s honoured as the greatest statesman of the 20th century but is this title justified? Astrology can lift the veil and reveal what lay behind the public facade, delving into the taboo areas of his biography, while also defining his traits that led the British people to trust him and follow him through the turmoil to victory.
Phoebe Wyss is a Hove astrologer with 40 years experience in giving consultations, courses and workshops and is an experienced public speaker. She’s published an astrology board game, two books on the astrological archetypes and her latest book – Inside the Cosmic Mind: Archetypal Astrology and the New Cosmology – was published in 2014.
November 18th: 2020 Insight: The Death-Rebirth Struggle of the Human Psyche
A Talk by Renn Butler
We are living in intensely pressurised and transformative times. In this talk we will look at the major world transits this fall, their corresponding archetypal influences, and some of the ways we can work with those energies and emotions. Renn will introduce the research of Stanislav Grof and Richard Tarnas concerning the deeper structures of the human psyche and how astrology can help us to navigate those terrains. We will also explore how aspects of the spiritual death-rebirth struggle, associated with the great Jupiter-Saturn-Pluto conjunction this year, tend to manifest in the world of music, film, and art.
Renn Butler studied with Richard Tarnas and Stan Grof at the Esalen Institute in California, certifying as a Holotropic Breathwork™ facilitator in 1989. His first astrology book, Pathways to Wholeness which looks at psychedelic experiences, was published in 2014, followed by The Archetypal Universe in 2018 which focuses on dreams, and Oh, Goddess in 2020 about relationships. His ten-month online course in Archetypal and Holotropic Astrology has received enthusiastic reviews. www.rennbutler.com/online-courses

A Talk by Trav Travers
Much neglected, practically forgotten in our modern world, we are out of step with the natural rhythms life. Planets dictate the quality of the time as it ebbs and flows around us. A simple knowledge of one of Astrology’s most ancient artefacts will re-connect you with planetary time and experience planetary hours directly in your life and how they work with your birth chart.
Trav Travers has been running his traditional astrology group “The Astrological Explorers” for several years, based in Sussex, looking at Natal, Mundane, Electional and Horary astrology through the ages, based on traditional source texts. His interest in astrology originally started in childhood. A devotee and advocate of traditional astrology since 1990, Trav has studied with many well-known traditional astrologers. He holds workshops, lectures and talks and still ‘does charts’.
