The Presence of the Past: Understanding Retrograde Planets

All the planets we work with in astrology (except the Sun and Moon) have retrograde phases in which they appear to move backwards.  Astrologers have discovered that during these times, planets have a different energy, and manifest differently in our psychology and in world events.  Understanding the pattern of these shifts, and their meaning for us personally and collectively provides a valuable astrological key for living.

Our Spring Astrology Day will offer three talks on this theme by three local astrologers: Julian Venables, Pam Carruthers and Phoebe Wyss.

Mercury, the Sun & their Six-pointed Star in the Sky: A Talk with Julian Venables

Julian Venables
Julian Venables

Mercury retrograde these days is probably the most well known astrological phenomenon that has infused itself into the collective mind. But there is a lot more to this agile and trickster planet, especially when considering it from an alchemical and Hermetic viewpoint.

Julian will take a deep look at a new understanding of Mercury – that of the Magician. He will be looking at some choice mundane Rx examples such as Theresa May’s snap general election decision in 2017.

He will guide us forward into how to best use our personal Caduceus (Mercury’s wand). Through mastery of Mercury’s 3 times a year retrograde cycle, one gets to understand how to use all the retrogrades of the other planets as well.

Julian Venables is a Hove astrologer with a Faculty Diploma. He writes daily horoscopes on www.uinterview.com and has just published his first novel ‘The Astrologer’s Apprentice’. His website is www.julianvenables.co.uk

Retrograde Planets and our Karmic Agenda: A Talk by Phoebe Wyss

Phoebe Wyss
Phoebe Wyss

Phoebe will explore the presence of the past in the retrograde planets in our birth charts. She writes, “We will identify the different karmic issues associated with each planet, and take a look at our progressions to discover when these planets became, or will become, direct. By then, hopefully, the karma associated with them will be released”.

Phoebe Wyss is a Hove astrologer with 36 years experience in giving consultations, courses and workshops and is an experienced public speaker. She’s published an astrology board game, two books on the astrological archetypes and her latest book on archetypal astrology and the new paradigm was published in 2014. Venus Retrograde and the Archetypal Feminine: A Talk with Pam Carruthers

Pam Carruthers

Venus goes Retrograde when it’s the furthest distance ahead of the Sun (Morning star) for approx.40-43 days every 18 months. Over a period of eight years, these points of retrograde form a pattern –a pentacle, a five-petal lotus, a spiral fractal.

When Venus is retrograde she conjuncts the Sun in only five signs of the Zodiac in a lifetime! From 1966 through 2047 they are Aries; Scorpio; Gemini; Capricorn; Leo/Virgo.

When Venus is 10 degrees ahead of the Sun while still retrograde, it is rising as a Morning Star. This is called the heliacal rise. Shamanic astrology calls the Venus heliacal rise “The Shamanic Overtone.”

On April 1st 2017 we began the Shamanic Overtone of Aries. The Overtone tells us what archetype of the feminine is being integrated into the collective psyche of humanity. The Martian Warrioress is sweeping the globe with the ‘me too hashtag’. Added to this Mars and Venus joined on October 5th 2017. This is a rare event and has energised the rise of feminine power.

Pam Carruthers is a qualified professional Vedic and Western astrologer. She works from a spiritual perspective and is a student of A Course in Miracles.

An experienced Life Coach and Trainer, Pam helps clients discover the hidden patterns that are holding them back in their lives. A consultation with her is a life enhancing and healing experience. Vist her website www.healingstars.com
