Exploring Pluto Astrology Day March 18th 2017

When the New Horizons spacecraft made its flyby of Pluto on July 14, 2015, there was worldwide celebration that we’d finally gotten our first detailed look at this completely new type of planet in the outer reaches of our solar system.

4 Talks on Pluto by leading astrologers

Pam Carruthers, Julian Venables, Phoebe Wyss and Tim Burness explore Pluto- the God of the Underworld- from four different perspectives.

Understanding Pluto-Discovery and Mythology: A Presentation with Pam Carruthers

Pam Carruthers

Astrology teaches us that the discovery of a planet corresponds with a shift in consciousness.

Pluto was discovered in 1930 corresponding with the Great Depression in the US and the rise of fascism in Europe. The nuclear bomb was invented, changing our world forever. It was also the period when psychology as practised by Freud and Jung gained in popularity.

Pluto lies buried in our charts until it is activated at the first square. This happens nowadays around the age of 38-42 years old (along with the Uranus opposition) creating what is known as the mid-life crisis. However this wasn’t the case for the generation born between 1913-1938 since Pluto stayed in the sign of Cancer for 25 years.

Exploring the myths of Pluto are essential to understanding the God of the underworld. In this beautifully illustrated presentation Pam will guide us through the discovery, the history, the myths, the movies, the archetypes and the shadows associated with the outermost planet in our Solar System.

Pluto by aspect and by transit: A Talk by Julian Venables

Julian Venables
Julian Venables

Pluto represents the inner eruptive force in life that brings transformation and renewal. It is the planet that is the ‘dark side’, bringing grief and all things to an end.

However there is light at the end of the tunnel and as TS Elliot once said: “In my ending is my beginning…”, describing Pluto’s ability to destroy what doesn’t work and thus allow renewal and personal transformation.

Julian will present a PowerPoint lecture which delves into the shadowy depths of Pluto by interpreting it in aspect to other natal planets, and also by transit.

After the darkness comes light and wisdom of experience, and in this way Pluto bestows personal power and inner strength.

Julian Venables is a Hove astrologer with a Faculty Diploma. He writes daily horoscopes on www.uinterview.com and has just published his first novel ‘The Astrologer’s Apprentice’. His website is www.julianvenables.co.uk

To the Underworld and Back: An Experiential Encounter with Pluto with Phoebe Wyss

Phoebe Wyss
Phoebe Wyss

In this session, using the techniques of experiential astrology, Phoebe will guide you to the mouth of the tunnel that leads down into your personal underworld. There you’ll meet Pluto who will cast a spell on you compelling you to follow him into your inner darkness.

On the way down your lantern will illuminate a lot of old clutter from your present and past lives that you’ve hidden away and forgotten. Finally at the tunnel’s end, deep below the surface, you’ll find the roots of the tree of life where your treasure is buried. However this is guarded by a large snake, who must be charmed before he’ll deliver it up. Finally when you repossess the treasure this frees you from Pluto’s spell, and you can return with it up through the tunnel. When you finally emerge into daylight and see the sky, this feels like a rebirth.

Phoebe Wyss is a Hove astrologer with 35 years experience in giving consultations, courses and workshops and is an experienced public speaker. She’s published an astrology board game, two books on the astrological archetypes and her latest book on archetypal astrology and the new paradigm was published in 2014.
